Case Study (Wafex)
When Wafex engaged SSWA in 2019, it was a case of you don’t know what you don’t know. As a fast growing business, we were in need of someone to help our business shape safety in a way that would grow with us. To give honest feedback we didn’t have the in-house skills to take safety to where it needed to be. Through the work that SSWA did with us, through the teething issues and the changes that needed to be done, we have increased and empowered our safety culture significantly.
The consultants that we had during the time that we engaged SSWA were able to connect with us on a level that made sense to our needs, our business, and this allowed us to take it onboard and really soak it in.
With SSWA to lead us:
- WAFEX was able to establish WHS Committees in WA, VIC and QLD, along with the National Committee and an update to our Safety Committee Charter.
- Institute a Contractor Management System
- Build and put in place an updated and comprehensive Incident reporting/investigation system.
- Train and use Myosh as a WHS system for the business
- Increase the understanding of risk management and control through the setup of inspections and observations, the use of JSA’s and risk Assessments
- Increased the understanding and management of the plant and equipment through Pre-starts, inductions and internal training recording.
These things amongst a host of others were achieved through the consultation and engagement of SSWA with all levels of our business from Directors and board members, all the way through to the floor staff.
Since we have engaged SSWA our safety journey has taken us to a new level and we realised that we required further resources. We hired a WHS Manager in 2023 to facilitate on site safety across the business in all the states and SSWA were instrumental in the handover, providing the support and the experience for them to hit the ground running.
SSWA came in and gave us the opportunity to ask all the questions that we had, giving us answers to the questions we didn’t know we had to ask. They did it with a degree of familiarity and professionalism that belies their experience in WHS, and we are grateful that the decision was made to engage them when we did, especially noting the changes to legislation in WA where our Head office is located.
We appreciate and are grateful for SSWA working with us and helping us become a more safety conscious business. They are more than just a service in their field, they are a leader at the forefront.
