Metzke – Integrating ISO 45001 into an Existing Management System
The Challenge
Metzke, a Perth-based manufacturer of RC drilling equipment and consumables, was already operating under a certified Integrated Management System aligned with ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental). As part of their ongoing commitment to safety and continuous improvement, the business engaged Safety Solutions WA to support the integration of ISO 45001 for Occupational Health and Safety Management into their existing system.
The key challenge was aligning ISO 45001 requirements with existing frameworks, while embedding practical, consistent WHS processes into day-to-day operations and supporting workforce engagement.
What We Did
Safety Solutions WA worked closely with Metzke to support the integration of ISO 45001 into their established IMS.
Key actions included:
-
Conducting risk assessments for all equipment and plant operations, identifying hazards, and updating the risk register.
-
Engaging workers in identifying risks and developing appropriate control measures.
-
Reviewing and updating Health and Safety policies and procedures to align with ISO 45001.
-
Overhauling training programs to cover emergency response, hazard control, and safe work practices, with training records captured in a centralised register.
-
Recreating key operational registers, including injury reporting, training matrices, and corrective action logs.
-
Enhancing the incident investigation process to support root cause analysis and follow-up actions.
-
Introducing a streamlined system for reporting hazards and near misses, promoting transparency and awareness across the business.
The Outcome
Metzke now operates with an enhanced Integrated Management System aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards. WHS processes have been strengthened across the organisation, documentation is consistent, and the business is well-positioned for future compliance and continued improvement. Safety Solutions WA is proud to have supported the Metzke team in integrating ISO 45001 into their established systems.
